Sophie Lekas – 3rd Prize 2016

Sophie Lekas (17) started the violin at 5 years old. Since then, Sophie has been attending a francophone music camp in Quebec every summer. Sophie plays violin in the Symphony and Chamber orchestras, the pit for the Spring musical, and electric violin in a jazz combo. She also plays oboe in the Wind Ensemble, Hinsdale Central’s top audition band, and I am a drum major in the marching band. She has participated in the ILMEA All-State orchestras for the past three years where I’ve met many talented musicians from across the state. She will be be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, while there she will major in Mechanical Engineering, and hope to serve in the Corps of Engineers upon graduation.
