Ching-Liang Chiang is a current doctoral student at NYU Steinhardt majoring in String Studies. Chiang was initially trained as a pianist at 6 years old, and won his first international award when he was 9 at the 2014 edition of the PIARA Piano International Concours in Hamamatsu, Japan. As an undergraduate violin student, he studied diverse repertoire ranging from baroque and classical to tango and contemporary under the tutelage of Kurt Nikkanen and Giora Schmidt at Steinhardt while double majoring in neuroscience. He has taken masterclasses with Peter Herresthal, Daniel Stabrawa, Malin Broman, Johan Dalene, Frederik Øland, Qianqian Li, and Grace Shim.

Chiang’s years at NYU have also supplied him with thorough experience in ensemble playing and musical leadership on both the violin and viola. In March of 2023, he won the NYU String Concerto Competition and performed Korngold’s Violin Concerto with the NYU orchestra in March of 2024. Since then, he has regularly collaborated with the NYU Screen Scoring Department and serves as a graduate adjunct violin faculty member.
